McDonald's Mexico: McMolletes, the Gansito McFlurry and a Signature Tier

This site covers a run of Latin American McDonald’s, and Mexico sits apart from the rest of them. The Central American boards do their localizing all day, with refried beans, loroco and horchata; Mexico puts nearly all of its Mexican cooking into breakfast and spends the rest of the menu on premium burgers its neighbors don’t sell. El Salvador and Guatemala keep a Quesoburguesa and seasoned McPatata wedges, and neither turns up here. What they all share is the McNífica, the burger Latin America named for itself.

Measured against the US burger board the difference runs the other way: Mexico has a whole Signature tier on brioche, three sizes of most value burgers, a cheese pie and two Gansito McFlurries. Burgers

Three tiers stack up on this board. Value burgers run single, double and triple, the McNífica and Cuarto de Libra hold the middle, and the Signature line sits on brioche at the top.

This is the part of the menu that could only be Mexican.

FAQ

What does McDonald’s Mexico have that the US doesn’t?

The McMolletes, the McBurrito a la Mexicana, both Gansito McFlurries, the KitKat McFlurry, the cheese pie, the McNífica and the whole Signature burger tier. The overlap with the US board is still wide, since Mexico keeps the Big Mac, the Quarter Pounder, the McCrispy Deluxe and Spicy, hash browns and the apple pie.

What is a McMollete?

Molletes are a Mexican breakfast of split bread under refried beans and melted cheese, usually finished with pico de gallo, and McDonald’s Mexico sells its own version as McMolletes. They also come inside the Desayuno Especial Mexicano, next to eggs a la mexicana and sausage.

What is the Gansito McFlurry?

It’s a McFlurry mixed with Gansito, the Marinela snack cake that Mexican kids grow up on: chocolate-coated sponge with strawberry jam and cream inside. McDonald’s Mexico lists two of them, a chocolate build and a strawberry build.

Is the menu the same as in Guatemala or El Salvador?

No. Mexico shares the McNífica and the McPollo with them and not much else, because Guatemala and El Salvador sell the Quesoburguesa, McPatata wedges, the Big Tasty and bean-filled McMuffins, while Mexico answers with the Signature tier, the Grand Bacon Deluxe and McMolletes.
