Costa Rica keeps its local cooking in two places. Breakfast has the McPinto, a plate built on gallo pinto, the rice and black beans Costa Ricans eat most mornings, in a smaller version with egg and a larger Deluxe. Lunch has La Tica, a burger line named after what Costa Ricans call themselves, sold with yuquitas, fried cassava sticks that appear on no other McDonald’s menu we cover. The rest of the board is the South American corporate menu: Club House and Hongos Deluxe burgers on sweet buns, Premium CBO, bone-in Pollo McCrispy, three salads, five frappés and a beef empanada at McCafé. Prices are in colones, through the app.
Costa Rica is the odd one out in this site’s Central American coverage. El Salvador, Guatemala and Nicaragua all run the same corporate platform, with an Antojos cravings menu, Creaciones Gourmet burgers and a McMuffin built on beans. None of that exists here. Costa Rica’s menu is the Arcos Dorados board used further south, which is why the burgers are Club House, Hongos Deluxe and Premium CBO, and why a Spanish-language menu carries so many English product names: Cheesecake Pie, Coffee Shake, McCrispy Legend. What is left of the localizing sits at breakfast and on the La Tica line, and both are worth the trip. For the wider picture, see McDonald’s around the world, or the US burger board for a comparison point. Images © McDonald’s Costa Rica, checked against the chain’s own menu.
Checked September 11, 2026. Costa Rican prices run in colones and vary by restaurant; the McDonald’s app shows the ones near you. The corporate menu publishes none of them.
Breakfast
Pinto is the everyday word for gallo pinto, rice and beans fried together with the previous day’s rice. The Costa Rican version uses black beans, which is the main thing separating it from the red-bean gallo pinto served in Nicaragua. McDonald’s sells two McPinto plates and publishes no ingredient list for either, so the app is where you find out what arrives.

Burgers
The La Tica line is the local one. Tico and tica are what Costa Ricans call themselves, and the menu pitches the burgers in voseo, the second-person form Costa Rican Spanish uses: ‘que podés acompañar con nuestras deliciosas yuquitas.’ Everything else in this section is the regional corporate lineup, and a Triple con Bacon sits at the top of it.

McCafé
Costa Rica grows coffee that sells by the valley name in specialty shops around the world, so a McCafé here has a lot to live up to. The board is a solid one, with thirteen items: café con leche, three flavored cappuccinos, a chocomenta, a Chocolate Freddo, five frappés, plus a beef empanada and a corn cake in the pastry case. What it does not do is name a Costa Rican roast. Nicaragua pours a Café Nicaragüense and Honduras a Café Catracho; Costa Rica’s board says only café. If you want the local beans, the coffee shop two doors down will sell them to you.

FAQ
What is the McPinto?
It’s McDonald’s Costa Rica’s gallo pinto breakfast, sold as a smaller plate with egg and a larger Deluxe. Gallo pinto is rice and black beans fried together, the standard Costa Rican breakfast, and the menu page doesn’t publish what else comes on the tray, so check the app before you order.
What are yuquitas?
Fried cassava sticks, cut and cooked like fries, and sold as the side to the La Tica burgers. Yuca is everyday food in Costa Rica, and this is the only cassava side on any McDonald’s menu this site covers.
Does McDonald’s Costa Rica sell fried chicken on the bone?
Yes. Pollo McCrispy comes in one, two and three-piece orders, with McNuggets in four and ten beside it. The US menu has no bone-in chicken; Nicaragua sells the same pieces.
How does the menu differ from the rest of Central America?
Costa Rica skips almost all of it. The Antojos cravings menu, the Creaciones Gourmet burger tier and the bean-filled McMuffins that anchor El Salvador, Guatemala and Nicaragua are all absent here. What replaces them is the Arcos Dorados southern lineup (Club House, Hongos Deluxe, Premium CBO), three salads the neighbors don’t carry, and two local exceptions, McPinto and La Tica.
