McDonald’s Italy is running a limited range called Dolce Vita, where the McChicken Il Romano carries a creamy cacio e pepe sauce and a matching cacio e pepe mayonnaise sits on the dip list. The permanent board is built on protected Italian ingredients: Parmigiano Reggiano DOP, Grana Padano DOP, Pachino IGP tomatoes, Italian chicken and beef, and bacon made from Italian pancetta. Crispy McBacon is the local hero burger, panzerotti are a fried side no other market sells, a bar of Parmigiano is on the menu as a snack, and a gluten-free burger is a standing product rather than a trial. Prices are in euros, through the app.
Plenty of McDonald’s markets put a local ingredient on a limited burger. Italy puts the supply chain on the whole menu. Product after product names where the meat, the cheese and the tomatoes come from, and the names carry the EU quality marks: DOP for protected designation of origin, IGP for protected geographical indication. Every item below is listed in English first, with the Italian name underneath when the two differ. For comparison, see Spain, Switzerland and Germany, or the wider picture in McDonald’s around the world.

Dolce Vita: the limited range
Dolce Vita is the current limited run, and it works two Italian flavours. Il Romano takes cacio e pepe, the Roman pasta sauce of pecorino and black pepper, and turns it into a creamy sauce over Italian chicken and bacon. Il Mediterraneo goes south with a red pesto of sun-dried tomatoes and Grana Padano DOP, and comes as a sandwich or a wrap. The range also puts a cacio e pepe mayonnaise on the dip list, which is the part worth ordering even if you skip the sandwiches.

Burgers
Crispy McBacon is the burger Italians name when you ask what’s different here: beef, two slices of bacon, a bacon sauce and melting cheese, with a two-patty Gran version above it and a Crispy McWrap version in a tortilla. The plain Hamburger is where the sourcing claim lands hardest, with 100% beef from Italian farms, and the bacon across this section is made from Italian pancetta. Two items on this list would surprise most visitors. The Gluten Free Burger sits on the standing menu rather than appearing as a test, and the McToast, cooked ham and melted cheese, is described by McDonald’s Italy as the only round toast, a nod to the toast every Italian bar sells.

Chicken
The phrase 100% Italian chicken runs down this whole section, including the McNuggets, which is a claim most European boards make about beef and leave alone for poultry. McCrunchy Chicken uses a whole fillet under a heavy breading, and the McWrap with crispy chicken finishes with shavings of Parmigiano Reggiano. The Chickenburger is the small, cheap one, with a Caesar sauce. Wings are on the permanent list, in a standard portion and a 12-piece, and a Double Chicken BBQ and Spicy Chicken McNuggets fill out the board.

Sides and panzerotti
Panzerotti are the reason to read this section. They’re fried pockets of dough with tomato and melting mozzarella inside, a southern street food strongest in Puglia, sold here in threes and fives, and Italy is the only McDonald’s market that carries them. The other oddity is a bar of Parmigiano Reggiano DOP sold as a snack, sitting on the same list as the nuggets. Loaded fries come as Le Ricche, the rich ones, in cheddar or cheese and bacon, and there’s a McShaker Fries SPICY with a seasoning sachet you shake yourself, plus baby carrots for a lighter side.

Salads
The salads are where the origin labels get almost comic. A plain green salad is described by the tomato it contains, Pachino IGP, the protected tomato grown around Pachino in south-east Sicily, and the chicken salad carries both Pachino IGP tomato and Parmigiano Reggiano DOP in its product name. The mixed salad throws in olives and raw fennel, which is a very Italian thing to find in a fast-food side.

Desserts and McCafé
Baci Perugina, the hazelnut chocolates from Perugia, runs across both the McFlurry and the sundae, the way Cailler does in Switzerland and Daim does in Sweden. Beside it is the Dubai chocolate trend, kataifi pastry and pistachio in a McFlurry, and a Biscoff version. The plain soft serve is sold as Sundae Fiordilatte, borrowing the gelato word for the plain milk flavour, and the same ice cream goes into a Cono. Fruit is on this list too, a bag of grapes and apple slices. The McCafé cinnamon roll is the one thing here that admits it isn’t Italian: the site says it comes from Sweden.

FAQ
What is the McChicken Il Romano?
It’s a McChicken with a creamy cacio e pepe sauce, Italian chicken and crispy bacon, part of the limited Dolce Vita range on the menu as of September 11, 2026. Cacio e pepe is the Roman pasta sauce made from pecorino cheese and black pepper. Italy sells a cacio e pepe mayonnaise as a dip at the same time, so you can put the flavour on fries or nuggets instead.
What are panzerotti at McDonald’s Italy?
They’re small fried pockets of dough filled with tomato and melting mozzarella, sold in portions of three or five as a side. Panzerotti are a southern Italian street food associated with Puglia, and Italy is the only McDonald’s market that puts them on the menu. If you order one side you haven’t seen before here, make it this one.
Does McDonald’s Italy have a gluten-free burger?
Yes. The Gluten Free Burger is on the standing menu, on gluten-free bread, not a limited run. Switzerland offers a gluten-free bun on several burgers as well, though most European McDonald’s boards don’t carry one. Each product page lists its allergens, so check there or ask in the restaurant if you need to avoid gluten strictly.
How much does McDonald’s cost in Italy?
Prices are in euros, vary by restaurant, and the McDonald’s app shows what yours charges. The Italian website doesn’t publish prices on its product pages, which is why this page doesn’t either.
