The short answer

The McRib is a permanent item in Germany, on the board all year, while the US runs it as a seasonal comeback. Germany’s own big burger is Der M, with a Der M Bacon next to it. Quarter Pounders go by Hamburger Royal here: Royal Cheese for the cheese build, Royal TS for the one with tomato and lettuce. The board carries five McWraps including a vegetarian Mozzarella Balsamico, McPlant Nuggets in the same three sizes as the chicken ones, Big Morning breakfast platters, and a McCafé bakery case with cherry crumble cake and a pistachio cream donut. Prices are in euros, through the app.

Germany publishes its product list in German only, so every item on this page is given in English first and then under its German name when the two differ. Three naming habits are worth learning before you order. TS after a burger name is short for Tomate und Salat, tomato and lettuce. Royal means the quarter-pound patty, the way it does in France. McSmart is the value line. New and signature

Der M is the burger McDonald’s Deutschland is building the menu around: two beef patties, a creamy special sauce, fried onions, white cheese, pickles and lettuce, at 1,141 kcal by its own product page. A bacon version sits beside it. The other three here are the McRib, which Germany never takes off the board, and a pair of peppery arrivals, the Big Tasty Pepper Bacon and the McCrispy Pepper Delight.

Burgers

The Royal family is where the German board diverges from the English-language menus. Hamburger Royal Cheese is the Quarter Pounder with Cheese, and Hamburger Royal TS is the same patty with two tomato slices, lettuce and a mild sandwich sauce. A Double Hamburger Royal TS is listed too. Next to them, the McDouble Chili Cheese brings jalapeños and a chili cheese sauce into a standard double, and the Double Beef Classic comes off the McSmart value line with Big Tasty sauce and honey mustard together. The McVeggie TS is the vegetarian burger, built on a Valess patty. Big Mac, Cheeseburger, McChicken Classic, Chickenburger and Filet-O-Fish all run as you’d expect.

McCrispy and McWraps

Germany runs five McWraps in total. Four are on the all-day board, and a scrambled-egg one, the McWrap Rührei Bacon, appears at breakfast. The one to notice is Mozzarella Balsamico, a vegetarian wrap with three breaded mozzarella sticks inside it and a sweet balsamic sauce. Veggie Sweet Chili swaps chicken for a Valess patty, which gives the German menu two meat-free wraps at once. The plain McCrispy comes with honey mustard in a potato bun.

Nuggets and fingerfood

This is the section that separates Germany from the Dutch board and most of the rest of Europe. Mozzarella Snackers are breaded mozzarella pieces sold in fours and sevens, and the Chicken & Cheese Box puts 12 Chicken McNuggets and 7 Snackers in one carton. Spicy Chicken McNuggets come in 6, 9 or 20 alongside the plain ones. So do the McPlant Nuggets, which is the detail worth flagging: the plant-based option gets all three sizes rather than a single token portion.

Breakfast

German breakfast is bigger than the continental version you get in Switzerland. Big Morning is a platter line on a grain roll, sold as Farmer, Chicken or Egg. McToast is a toasted sandwich with bacon and cheese or cheese alone. The McGriddles line runs both ways, as a Bacon & Egg sandwich between two maple buns and as two plain pancakes. Mini Pancakes come in sixes or twelves with your choice of cinnamon sugar, powdered sugar or a sauce. McMuffins, a Buttercroissant and the McWrap Rührei Bacon fill out the rest.

Desserts and McCafé

Two hot pies sit side by side in Germany: the apple one and a lychee one, which the product page calls the pink trend from Malaysia. McPops run to five flavors, Lucky Lemon, Coco Kiss, Berry Bomb, Hazel Hero and Pistachio Dream. The part that feels most German is the McCafé bakery case, where a cherry crumble cake, a raspberry cheesecake muffin and a pistachio cream donut are ordinary all-day orders. On the cold list, a banana milkshake has joined the usual McFlurry rotation (Choc Pretzel and KitKat White with strawberry sauce are the current two) and the Iced Coffee Shake Choc.

FAQ

Is the McRib always available in Germany?

Yes. The McRib is a permanent product on the German menu, listed with the other burgers rather than on a limited-time page, and it has been a fixture for years. That’s the opposite of the US arrangement, where McDonald’s brings it back for a few weeks at a time and then pulls it. Germany’s is pork with BBQ sauce, pickles and white onions.
