The short answer

McDonald’s Portugal runs a McCafé counter that sells pastel de nata and bola de Berlim, four soups led by caldo verde, and canned Sagres beer. The Quarter Pounder family is branded McRoyal, five sandwiches come on a gluten-free bun, and the drinks are Portuguese brands: Compal orange from the Algarve, Sumol pineapple soda and Serra da Estrela water. Hot Honey is the promotion running right now.

Two things make the Portuguese board worth reading. The first is the McCafé counter, which is stocked like a pastelaria: pastel de nata, bola de Berlim, croissants with ham and cheese, bread rolls with fiambre. The second is the soup, four of them, with caldo verde at the front. Both are everyday food in Portugal and rare on a McDonald’s menu anywhere else, which puts the country high on the worldwide menu map.

The burger side is more familiar, with one naming quirk. The Quarter Pounder line is called McRoyal here, in Cheese, Deluxe and Bacon builds, so the wording on the American board never appears. Portugal also goes further than most markets on gluten, listing five sem glúten sandwiches on their own product pages, and it flags one mixed salad as sold only in Madeira and the Azores.

McCafé: the bakery counter

Soups and salads

Four soups, in two sizes. Caldo verde and the spinach cream come in a 200ml cup; green bean and carrot come in 150ml. The salad list has a tuna pasta salad, a feta pasta salad and a dressing-free mixed salad, plus the island-only one below.

Burgers

The McRoyal name covers what other countries call the Quarter Pounder. Spain uses McRoyal Deluxe for one of its burgers as well, which you can compare on the Spanish menu. McVeggie, the classic hamburger and cheeseburger, a double cheeseburger and the CBO fill out the rest of the beef and burger board.

Does McDonald’s Portugal sell beer?

Yes, canned Sagres is on the drinks list as a McMenu option. Sagres is one of Portugal’s two big lagers, along with Super Bock, and McDonald’s Portugal sells it the same way it sells a Coke with a meal.
